In October 20XX, a Chinese agent disguised as a shipwreck in a storm landed on Minamikojima Island in the Senkaku Islands, claiming that the island was an inherent part of Chinese territory and was waiting for Chinese ships to arrive. This led to the “Senkaku Islands Chinese Landing Incident.” Furthermore, a collision between a China Coast Guard vessel attempting to enter Japanese territorial waters and a Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel, and warning shots were fired at a destroyer dispatched for investigation purposes, escalating the situation.
The Japanese government tried to settle the situation by almost giving in to China. However, the Prime Minister, feeling a sense of crisis about China’s actions, decided to bring forward the “Pegasus Plan,” which was based on the commissioning of a new destroyer and the creation of a new escort fleet with the ship as its flagship.
One year after the incident, the “Ibuki,” the Self-Defense Forces’ first aircraft carrier, was completed. Lieutenant Commander Ryuta Akitsu, a former ace pilot of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, was appointed captain, and Lieutenant Commander Toshiya Niinami was selected as the first officer and navigator.[Note 3]
In April of the following year, 20XY, while the Ibuki was on a training voyage off the coast of Minamitorishima, the Chinese military launched the “Dawn Project” and suddenly began an invasion of Japan. The Chinese military seized the Sakishima Islands (Yonaguni Island) and the Senkaku Islands, resulting in the first wartime deaths in Japan since the war. In response to China’s failure to issue a statement on the series of military actions, the Japanese government, under the command of Prime Minister Keiichiro Tarumi, ordered the first ever defense mobilization in history. Domestic fears began to grow that a war might break out.
The Ibuki fleet, which was in the middle of training, rushed to the scene, but the Chinese military had also sent their North Sea fleet, centered on the new aircraft carrier “Guangdong,” to the Sakishima Islands. Negotiations with the Chinese government, which had begun to move, broke down, and finally the operation to retake territory by force, “Hayabusa,” was launched.
In the occupied Sakishima Islands, the residents were placed under house arrest under surveillance, and skirmishes between the approaching Self-Defense Forces and the Chinese military, which was advancing its military preparations on the Senkaku Islands, gradually intensified, with many casualties, including the sinking of a Chinese submarine and artillery fire on the Senkaku Islands. Negotiations between the governments also progressed slowly, and pressure from not only within the country but also from neighboring countries increased.
A large typhoon passed by, interrupting the tension, and it seemed like a temporary ceasefire, but as soon as the weather cleared, the Chinese military began to take action. After confirming this, the Self-Defense Forces fought back, and the deck of the aircraft carrier Guangdong was destroyed by the machine guns of the carrier-based aircraft, which was the decisive factor in ending the battle.
Immediately afterwards, the Chinese military aircraft, which were unable to land or return home, were guided to Ishigaki Airport and Yonaguni Airport and forced to land, which effectively resulted in the Chinese military surrendering.
