Born in Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture in 1876, Noguchi Seisaku (later Hideyo) grew up as a timid boy due to a burn on his hand when he fell into a hearth as a child. However, one day when he was seven years old, Seisaku wrote about his mother Shika, who worked from early in the morning until late at night despite being poor, and for the first time received praise from his teacher.
